Hello, my name is Brett Kent. My real estate background started in 2005, and I earned my Real Estate License in 2018. I initially earned my license to capture my own investment commissions, but found this is truly a fun way to learn more, serve others, and assist people with their housing or investing needs. I enjoy getting to collaborate with lenders, designers, builders, investors, and other agents in the industry. I’m excited to leverage my experience and help with your housing needs.

A little more about me, I’m a born and raised Boise, Idaho native. I attended Meridian and Borah High, graduated in 2001, completed Boise State for my BBA in 2006, and Northwest Nazarene University for my MBA in 2013. The summer after graduating high school, I enlisted in the Idaho Air National Guard at the age of 17, and landed a job as bank teller, which supported me through college. I served 9 years in the IDANG, 6 years as a weekend warrior, then transitioned to full time guardsman for 3 years. In summer 2007 I gained Veteran status for participating in the Iraq War for 5 months.

I bought my first 3 bed 2 bath house at the age of 22, using an 80/20 5/1 ARM, when banks were giving money away. ☺ After my tour in Iraq, I used some money I saved and paid off the 20% HELOC on my primary residence. While I was overseas, l enjoyed the idea of my roommates paying my mortgage. Shortly after, I got interested in real estate investing, and passive income opportunities. I started reading all I could, staring with Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad Poor Dad books. Since this time, I’ve read most of his books, and a few others related to investing and leadership.

I furthered my investment strategy by leveraging house #1 against house #2, with 20% down, to avoid MI, renting both houses out, with a fairly decent passive income stream. In 2008, I weathered the recession, and held both homes because they were still producing positive income. Once values rebounded, I then ventured into investing in multi-family units in 2014, by purchasing my first four-plex using my VA Loan benefits. I liked the idea again, of living in one unit, and allowing the other three apartments to cover my expenses, plus a decent passive income. In 2015 I traded both SFRs using an IRS Code 1031 exchange, and leveraged up the basis, to purchase four-plex #2. During this time, I refinanced four-plex #1 into an FHA loan to unlock my VA benefits allowance, and used my VA Loan benefit again to buy four-plex #3.

In 2015, I met an amazing and beautiful Ivy League educated lady Lion who earned her LMSW at Columbia, and is now an LCSW. We got married in 2017, and we’re now venturing into building our own home and exploring the world of land development.
